Comparing yourself to others

2017-01-11 04:47:29

Considering this is the post that I'm publishing after the rant against self-help industry, it might look just a bit weird. But stay with me, I'm not gonna offer you any help, I'm just gonna think out loud again, as I tend to do sometimes. It's just that yesterday I was thinking, and yes, sometimes it happens, even though often I just write or talk without any unnecessary brain activity.

People say that you shouldn't compare yourself to others. They often say that when you're feeling down or just had a bad day. However, isn't that true that your friends, the people you know or yet don't know, actually are comparing you to others. And if they are doing that, should you do the same? Especially if you want to understand how other people see you.

I get it, in a perfect world you never should give a thing about what others think or what you appear to people in comparison to others. And based on who I am, I have a feeling I often knowingly or unknowingly live in that perfect world. But when you start thinking about it, then based on some sort of logic, a person should think of himself as in comparison with others, no? I agree with all the counter-arguments you might have, but I think this logic still remains true. At least in my opinion.

What do you think? I don't plan to change anything because of that, but it is an interesting thought, to me at least.
